This place is, literally, no different from any other chinese take-out I've gone to in my life outside of the fact that there isn't any bulletproof glass up at the counter (I grew up on the rough side of town). The floor is a little dirty (I don't feel unsafe eating there), the person at the counter has a vaguely solid grasp of english, that same person also usually says the name of the store in a rather staccato manner, and the menu is in both written and picture form. Also, much like those places, the food is pretty much what you would expect. It does it solidly without too much grease in anything except their dumplings (those things are always greasy). Personal jams are the shrimp in chili sauce and the rice noodle house special. Also, the chinese kids in town swear by the beef noodle soup here. They're right by the way as it is exceptionally good. In the end, it's probably one of the better takeouts in town, but just remember that it is a takeout and that implies a different level of judgment.

Typical small asian place with about 20ish seating. Decent food, cooked right there, fast and cheap, hefty portions. I usually hit it for lunches, as most lunch items (over 30) are good portions and $4.50-5.50. I also frequently get their Hot&Sour soup, which is great and cheap as well (made for you, not heating up all day). If you call in an order, expect it to be short and to the point and always ready in 5min they say.

I have never had Chinese food this bad in my life. I have tried it 4 times, a different dish each time and it never gets better. Yesterday I had their beef and noodle soup and I was so grossed out by the "beef" that I couldn't even eat more than a few bites. The beef was mostly tendons and fat and DISGUSTING. I know it's cheap, but that doesn't mean it has to be awful..

The beef noodle soup had good flavor and large chunks of beef in it, but not the best i've had. Just a typical asian place.

This place has the best beef noodle in Iowa City area. The noodle has great reputation in Chinese. Why I don't give 5 star? Because other food is not the 'real' chinese food, it has the same name but taste different.

This is the second-best kung pao chicken in the nation, after Kung Pao Bowl in Norwalk, California. Right here in Iowa City, they've got kung pao, with a capital "K," that rhymes with "A," that stands for . . . "amazing." C'mon, don't tell me you've never seen the Music Man. The chicken is fresh, moist, and flavorful. The sauce is out of this world. You could put yourself through grad school eating this stuff; far better than ramen, and almost the same price.

It doesn't take too long to figure out that this place is so cheap since they have never budgeted any cleaning supplies for the dining room. The food is alright, but the tables are all covered in dried-up soy sauce and the guy who always sits behind the counter is not bothered by this at all. My wife still loves the beef noodles, and their crab rangoon is pretty decent, but good lord I think this place is in a contest with Chili Yummy to see who can great the skuzziest restaurant downtown. I can only imagine what Stephen Bloom would think of this place...

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
